The St. Peters Spirit would like to thank the following companies for supporting our club during the 2013-14 season.
The St. Peters Spirit Hockey Club is proud to announce that it has received a donation of 50 sets of equipment from the NHL Players Association. We got the $25,000 grant based on the recommendation of former Spirit player Brandon Bollig, who was recently traded to the Calgary Flames, and former NHLers Mike Zuke (Spirit hockey skills director) and Paul Cavallini (St. Louis Selects ...director).
We will be selling the new, top-of-the-line equipment on Aug. 9 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Rec-Plex, South. Kids will have a chance to try out their equipment on ice from 4 to 5 p.m.
The sets include: skates, shin guards, shoulder pads, elbow pads, pants, gloves, helmet, stick and hockey bag. They are valued at more than $500, but we will be selling them for $300 a set. You may also purchase individual items. Sizes vary, but are generally for kids 8 and under.
All proceeds will go directly to our Brandon Bollig Fund, which helps provide financial assistance for kids to play hockey.
The schedule for pre-skates and evaluations are now available. You can access the schedule using the 'Evaluations' link at the top of the page.
The schedule is subject to change.
We are pleased to announce that the club has hired former Blues player Mike Zuke as our new hockey skills director. Coach Zuke will be on the ice with the kids and working with our coaches to ensure that your child is getting the best hockey education possible. Here is a letter from him:
To the families and players of the St. Peters Spirit Hockey Club:
I want to introduce myself. I am Mike Zuke, former member of the St. Louis Blues, and I am excited to be the new Hockey Skills Director of the St. Peters Spirit Hockey Club. I am looking forward to taking our club to the next level.
A little about myself. I have been coaching youth hockey for 25 years with various clubs including the Creve Coeur Comets, Chesterfield Falcons, Affton Americans, STL Selects, AAA Blues and Pee Wee Quebec as well as countless youth and college hockey clinics. Hockey has been a part of my life since I was 8 years old. As a professional hockey player for 10 years and college player, I know what it takes to become an accomplished player and to enjoy the game.
St. Peters is a great organization with tremendous potential. I look forward to working closely with the coaches and giving them the support they need as well as working with the players on their skill development.
I am also very excited to have a Skills Director Blog. So be watching the web page for that! I will be adding videos for on- and off-ice drills for the players as well as articles I feel will help develop our athletes to the next level and educate the parents on what is important in youth hockey.
My firm belief is that youth hockey is a foundation on which we can help young athletes become better citizens while striving to become the best at what they love: hockey.
I am looking forward to the 2014-15 season, and I am honored to be involved in growing the St. Peters Spirit Hockey Club and watching our players excel on and off the ice.
